The First Step Is Always Smaller Than You Think

I never set out to turn BMX into a career. I just wanted to ride.

At the beginning, there was no big plan, no end goal, no vision of where it could go. It was simply showing up, riding with friends, learning tricks, and having fun. One session led to another, one opportunity led to the next, and over time, things naturally started to grow into something bigger than I ever expected.

Looking back, it’s easy to connect the dots and make it seem like there was a clear path… but there wasn’t. It was just small moments stacked on top of each other. Learning one new trick. Saying yes to a local event. Meeting someone new. Trying something that felt just a little outside my comfort zone. None of those moments felt huge at the time, but together, they built everything.

That same pattern showed up in other areas too. When we started riding bikes into the Polar Plunge to support Special Olympics, it wasn’t some massive, fully thought-out initiative. It was a simple idea… let’s do something fun and meaningful. Then people showed up. Then more people showed up. And over time, it turned into something that’s made a real impact.

That’s the part I think gets overlooked a lot. We tend to think everything needs to start with a big decision or a perfectly mapped-out plan. But most of the time, it doesn’t work like that. It starts with interest. Curiosity. Just doing something because you enjoy it.

Momentum doesn’t come from one huge leap… it comes from showing up again and again. And before you even realize it, those small actions start opening doors you didn’t even know existed.

So if something feels big or overwhelming, don’t worry about figuring out the entire path. Just start with what’s right in front of you. Do the next small thing. Follow what you enjoy.

You never know what it might turn into !!
